Running Our Experiments

All members of our group are involved in the running of either the ATLAS, NovA, or SNO+ experiments. This can mean taking shifts in the experimental control rooms, performing software and hardware tasks that are crucial to the efficent running of the experiments; without this crucial work we would not have the high-quality data needed for our physics analyses.

Alex C. has been in charge of the overall operation of the atlas experiment, including day-to-day data taking, coordination of all the online experts and shifters and coordination of the ATLAS experiment with the other LHC experiments and the accelerator itself. Benedict and Mark ATLAS shifts.
Alex B, Tyler, Diana, Lily, Yibing, and Brett NOvA shifts.
The Sussex SNO+ group (Simon, Lisa, Jeff, Martti, Michal, and Charlie) regularly has control of the SNO+ detector and ensures it is operating correctly and taking good quality physics data. This can be done while being at the detector location, 2 km underground in Canada, but also from our control room right here in Brighton.
Alex B has been working as a part of the CERN group responsible for the low energy beam line where the ProtoDUNE single phase detector is located. He has mainly been dealing with the small detectors placed in the line to monitor the performance of the beam. More recently we have been using the data from these devices to establish the fraction of different particle types in the beam. ProtoDUNE is the prototype detector for the DUNE project.
