Chemistry Laboratory 2 (F1005)

15 credits, Level 4

Spring teaching

Learn how to organise, process, analyse and discuss data from chemistry lab experiments. You’ll also explpre computations covering synthesis, product and compound analysis and results processing. You’ll present the results in a scientific report.

You will apply these skills from actual laboratory experiments, comprising simple inorganic synthesis, separation, and characterisation techniques.

You’ll also be introduced to using computers in chemistry. This includes:

  • familiarisation with computations environment and materials
  • know-how on using specialised software and programs
  • an introduction to computational chemistry
  • an introduction to coding for chemistry purposes.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 83 hours of contact time and about 67 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
