Spring teaching

Building on existing levels of proficiency at B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference [CEFR], the module aims to:

  • Enable students to understand the main ideas ideas within complex speech and texts and to communicate effectively in the target language (TL), with fluidity and spontaneity, in a variety of contexts;
  • Provide opportunities, across a selected variety of topics and themes, for participation in advanced level communicative language activities (e.g. listening, reading, speaking, writing, interaction, and mediation);
  • Consolidate and develop the range of complex language structures, syntax, and specialised vocabulary to support consistent accuracy and control in use of the TL;
  • Facilitate the exploration, and analysis of a special subject linked to the student’s chosen field of interest.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 33 hours of contact time and about 117 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
