Research and knowledge exchange

Sussex Researcher School

The Sussex Researcher School (SRS) enables the progression and development of emerging researchers – encompassing undergraduate junior research associates (JRAs), postgraduate researchers (PGRs) and early career researchers (ECRs) – by providing support, structure, and connection across the University.

SRS’s core business areas include:

  • coordinating and delivering central PGR and ECR training and development provision, and running our JRA scheme, supporting undergraduates to access research experience;
  • providing pre- and post-award support for external training grants; and
  • overseeing the governance of the PGR and ECR experience, including policy development, quality assurance, and managing the University’s research degree portfolio.

SRS also provides institutional strategic direction for developing PGR and ECR provision and support, and its Enabling Plan outlines the key areas of focus in this work. The academic leads are Prof Jeremy Niven (Dean of the Sussex Researcher School) and Prof Erika Mancini (Director for Early Career Researchers). The professional services lead is Susanna Broom (Head of the Sussex Researcher School).
