Between 1896 and 1910, Hove was one of the main centres of film production for the United Kingdom as well as the rest of the world. A lot of the credit for this goes to Hove's film pioneers Esme Collings, George Albert Smith and James Williamson.
In The Emergence of Early Cinema in Brighton & Hove, Ben Cornwell explores the legacy of these local filmmakers and the impact of their work on shaping the future of developments in film and cinema. The documentary features interviews with film historian Frank Gray, Hove Museum assistant curator Alexia Lazou and Duke of York's Picturehouse marketing manager Sam Harris.
