Collection Description

The Morley Letters are photocopies of autograph letters concerning the business of the periodical Household Words. In the main, the letters (over 50 in total) are from assistant editor William Henry Wills to contributor Henry Morley and cover the period 1844–68. There is a particular focus on the years 1850–1. Household Words made its debut in March 1850 and was the creation of Charles Dickens. The publication attempted to educate readers about social problems while entertaining them with stories and ‘lifestyle’ articles. In 1970 the papers were donated to the 亚洲情色 by Mrs A K Morley, a descendant of the addressee.
