Why is wi-fi only available in some parts of the campus?

Wi-fi is widely available on the campus, focused in areas used by students such as:

  • open plan areas of the Library
  • lecture theatres and seminar rooms
  • student common rooms and social spaces
  • campus residences

Wireless coverage doesn't normally reach outside spaces or staff offices, although in some areas you can get signals leaking from nearby locations.

Although it would be ideal to have wi-fi everywhere on the campus, we're constrained by a number of factors including the structure and layout of buildings, the availability of network infrastructure and the available budget. But our network specialists work hard to provide the best possible service within these limits.
