FHEQ Level 5
Module Outline
What鈥檚 class got to do with it?鈥 This is the starting point for 鈥楥lass, Culture and Conflict: A View from Within鈥 which explores key contemporary social issues in relation to social class within the UK. From the Essex girl to Kate Middleton; from Celebrities private estates to living on a council estate; from hunger pains to the hunger for social mobility these are just some of the themes and issues explored. Throughout the module, sociological focus and attention is paid to the minutiae of everyday life. As students on this module, you will be encouraged to cast your own sociological imagination upon the everyday micro interactions and manifestations of the way in which social class is lived and experienced in contemporary austerity Britain through a consideration of the topics explored and by turning an auto-ethnographic lens upon your own social positioning (in seminars, during private study and through the modules assessment).
