Module Outline
The aim of this module is to give you direct experience of designing a small-scale research project or a theoretical study. It is intended to consolidate and build upon the knowledge base gained from the DSR research methods modules in the second year if you complete an empirical research project, as well as the theoretical, conceptual and substantive knowledge gained throughout your degree. You work mainly through independent study, under the guidance of a supervisor.
Please note that students are required to pass both L3078 Doing Social Research: working with quantitative data and L3079 Doing Social Research: working with qualitative data in the second year in order to take this module in the final year.
Module learning outcomes
Design a small-scale research project or systematic theoretical study.
Critically reflect upon the effectiveness of your research design or plan for theoretical study, in terms of its methodological rigour, ethical defensibility and/or contribution to a field of enquiry.
Communicate research and/or theoretical ideas to an academic audience by assessment.
