Module Outline

This module examines the relative economic performance of the main world regions, focusing particularly on comparative economic performance and political dynamics in China and Europe. The module draws on geographic and political economic theories to explain geographies of wealth, poverty and power and explores the social, political and cultural foundations of economic life. Students will study the main drivers of change, situating this within a wider context of globalisation, environmental and technological change and increasing economic and political interdependence.

Module learning outcomes

Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the main characteristics of relative economic growth and decline.

Recognise, synthesise and critically evaluate evidence relating to the geographies of wealth, poverty and power.

Demonstrate a critical awareness of the social, political and cultural foundations of economic life.

Demonstrate an ability to present and interpret numerical and qualitative indicators of relative economic performance.

Identify and critically assess the geographical variability of economic life and wealth creation.
