Full Module Description

This course introduces students to the field of social development through the examination of a
number of key concepts. For each topic we will look at how different concepts have been applied in
aid policy and practice, and at the debates and controversies they have given rise to. By drawing on
analyses of case studies and examples drawn from different countries, students are encouraged to
reflect critically upon the theoretical, practical, and ethical implications of each notion and to
develop their own views about the applicability of these concepts and their potential impacts in
different social contexts
