Amy Sweet, Social Development MA

I wanted to take my experience of working with indigenous people to the next level and study a Social Development MA, and why not at a university ranked 1st in the world in this field?!

I now have friends from all corners of the world and I learnt as much from them as I did from my super-star lecturers. I think there were around 22 different nationalities in a cohort of 25! They all really challenged me to dig much deeper into issues that I was passionate about, such as: indigeneity and culture, ethical consumption, sustainable development and climate change. I learned to critically interrogate topics that I thought I already knew lots about, and I gained an understanding of a myriad of perspectives and how they interrelate. I also discovered new interests around issues of gender in development, with a particular focus on the menstrual hygiene management agenda in global development.

I now feel ready to enter the development industry fueled with a depth of knowledge and a critical understanding of development practice in order to influence positive social transformation and environmental adaptation in partnership with the most marginalised people on our planet.
